This camera takes the core benefits of the base model - exceptional image quality, impeccable operation and exceptional mobility - and allows the user to activate the new built-in HDF (highlight diffusion filter) with a single movement , which provides soft, smooth images with areas of diffuse light in addition to the clear, sharp images of the base models.
This filter allows the user to give captured images a completely different visual expression, depending on the subject or creative intention.

Easily upgrade to the new built-in HDF to create smooth, softened images
The GR IIIx HDF features the new Highlight Diffusion Filter (HDF), which emphasizes highlights and produces soft, smooth images. As the HDF can be turned on and off with the press of a button, the user can effortlessly switch between two completely different visual expressions depending on the subject or creative intention: clear, sharp images, emblematic of RICOH GR series, and smoother, smoother images captured by HDF. This creative versatility pushes the visual boundaries of instant photography.

Feature-expanded firmware for an ever-expanding GR IIIx HDF
The GR IIIx HDF continues to evolve with the latest firmware updates. Feature-extended firmware is provided to add new features and configuration operations.

New features
The following features are now available with the GR IIIx HDF:
- User can pre-program up to three white balance settings as the base white balance. It is also possible to pair the basic white balance with the white balance fine adjustment function.

- The new model features Area Select AF, which automatically adjusts the focus to the most suitable point in the image area, once the user moves the 3x3 focus area to the desired area. The 3x3 focus area is the same size as auto-area AF (Center).

Uncompromising picture performance
The RICOH GR IIIx HDF is equipped with the new 26.1mm GR lens, providing a 40mm viewing angle in 35mm format, close to the photographer's effective field of view.

It is also designed to further enhance the core values of the GR Series: optimized image quality, snapshot capabilities and portability.

New GR lens delivers sharp images with high resolution and high contrast
The GR lens has been infused with our unique optical technology which aims to always deliver high image quality. The GR III uses a slim optical system consisting of 6 elements 4 groups with a focal length of 18.3mm (approximately 28mm in 35mm equivalent focal length) and an aperture of F2.8. The GR IIIx uses a new optical system consisting of 7 elements 5 groups with a new focal length of 26.1mm (approximately 40mm in 35mm equivalent focal length). High refractive index low dispersion glass elements and high precision molded glass aspherical elements are optimally placed in the lens construction according to each model's optical system to suppress optical distortion and aberration chromatic to the absolute limit, offering a high level of sharpness. This results in sharp, clear images across the entire frame, even when wide open.

Advanced image processing and responsiveness.
Discover the latest GR ENGINE 6
The imaging processor in the GR III models is the latest GR ENGINE 6. It elevates the essential high image quality performance of the GR to a greater level of detail. Faster processing makes the combination of a high-resolution sensor and multi-tone 14-bit RAW possible. This also helps improve responsiveness and functionality for autofocus and videos.

Shooting at ISO 102,400 is possible thanks to our original signal processing technology.
A high-performance processor “Accelerator Unit” is adopted on GR III models as a powerful means of supporting high image quality. The signal emitted by the image sensor is sent to the image processor after being optimally processed. This reduces noise, providing superb resolution and color reproduction across the entire sensitivity range. It also allows you to film at ISO 102400.

3-axis, 4-step shake reduction for high image quality over a wide shooting range
Camera shake is reduced for sharp images, even when taking split-second shots. Shake Reduction (SR) is installed while making the body size of GR III models compact. It minimizes buffeting in three axes, including yaw, pitch and roll. Compensation effects offer up to 4 shutter speed steps*. * Measured according to CIPA standards.

AA filter simulator to reduce false colors and moire with Shake Reduction mechanism
The effects of the optical anti-aliasing (AA) filter are achieved with Shake Reduction (SR). Moving the image sensor slightly during exposure removes false colors and moiré. You can choose to prioritize resolution or reduce false colors and moiré depending on your subject. Choose [High] or [Low] for effect settings.

● This function is available at shutter speeds below 1/1000 second.

A compact body and functional design with high performance
GR III models are developed with a focus on body support
compact size while including a high level of functionality. The model is one size smaller than the GR II and about the same size as the GR DIGITAL IV with a 1/1.7-inch image sensor. A minimalist design was sought to obtain a tool focused on portability and expression. The layout of buttons and dials is fully taken into account
to allow comfortable one-handed use.

Hybrid AF combining image plane phase-matched autofocus and contrast-detection autofocus
The AF system is a hybrid of image-plane phase matching and contrast detection. The advantages of high-speed focusing in image plane phase-matching AF and focusing precision in contrast-detection AF are combined. The common problem with contrast-detection AF of finding the focus peaks has been reduced to achieve the fast shooting performance required for street photography.

High speed approx. Boots up in 0.8 seconds from power on
A high-efficiency motor is used to drive the lens barrel so that it moves quickly from a retracted position to the shooting position. Additionally, the program startup process is optimized to reduce startup time. The built-in lens barrier also makes removing the lens cap unnecessary, so you won't miss a sudden photo opportunity.

Focus modes suitable for versatile subjects and shooting styles
Eight focus modes are available, including continuous AF for versatile shooting styles. An LCD monitor supporting touch operations is also adopted for direct control of the AF frame using touch and slide gestures. You can also focus (Touch AF) and shoot while moving the AF frame for quick shooting in any type of composition.

Face/eye detection autofocus for easier portrait shooting
The camera detects faces or eyes* and focuses. This feature is enabled in [Auto-area AF], [Select AF] and [Single AF]. When the face or eye is detected and focused, the focus point is framed. It is also possible to enable this feature only in [Auto-area AF]. Using this setting, when you want to focus on a subject rather than faces, simply change the focus mode without turning off face/eye detection.

With Full Press Snap, you'll never miss a photo
When the shutter button is pressed all the way, the camera releases the shutter at the preset distance. This high-speed shooting feature is unique to the GR, eliminating focus lag when you press the shutter button halfway so you can instantly capture split-second moments. Touchscreen and control wheel allow intuitive controls
The LCD monitor has a touch screen. Simply touch and drag to move the AF frame or access the menu. You can also pinch during playback to change the magnification, flick to view previous and next frames, or even return to the center of the image by double-tapping the monitor. A control dial is also positioned around the four-way button. This arrangement allows the camera to be used quickly with a simple action while maintaining a secure grip on the camera.

Featuring a creative picture control function, which integrates effect modes into conventional picture adjustment operations. With 11 basic image control modes, the user can easily adjust various parameters to create photos the way you want. The new “DOF Priority (Deep)” program line, perfect for panoramic focus shooting
The program line includes [Priority DOF (Deep)]. This is a program line that maintains the priority of a closed aperture (GR III*: F8.0, GR IIIx: F11) when shooting in program mode. It deepens the depth of field and, when combined with the [Snap] focus mode setting, allows you to easily take panoramic photos.
* This feature is also available with the GR III update, planned for a later release.

Macro mode, allowing close-up shots with the camera alone
Just press the macro button to take close-up photos with autofocus. The focusing range is 6 to 12 cm (GR III) and 12 to 24 cm (GR IIIx) from the front of the lens. You can enjoy impressive close-up photos with rich bokeh effects.

Capture star trails alongside the surrounding landscape, even in cities, with interval composite shooting
The adjustment items are specialized for shooting star trails. You can select this feature among the driving modes for instant shooting. No need to set the shooting interval in continuous shooting. Star trails can be set in 10-minute intervals (up to 24 hours), or you can choose from unlimited shooting duration. Additionally, you can select many other settings such as recording intermediate frames, set trigger start time, etc.
● Use a tripod. Note that slow shutter speed noise reduction and SR are disabled.
● Focus, exposure and white balance are fixed to the value of the first photo.

Instantly manipulate the view and expand your range of expression with crop mode
Using crop mode allows you to shoot compositions equivalent to 3 lenses in a single camera. Images are recorded at an angle of view equivalent to a focal length of 35mm or 50mm with GR III and equivalent to a focal length of 50mm or 71mm with GR IIIx. The joint use of the GR III and GR IIIx covers wide-angle focal lengths up to mid-telephoto focal lengths. This expands the range of expression from wide-angle shots with a sense of realism that capture a large amount of background information to mid-telephoto shots suitable for things such as portraits and natural standard shots that resemble the real subject.

Capture dreamlike photos with multi-exposure
There is no longer an image limit for composition. Composite results can be viewed on a transparent screen so you can check the composition while overlaying another image. You can change the exposure setting*, shoot, resume and finish shooting for each shot to easily create exactly the type of photo you have in mind.
* Exposure compensation, ISO speed, aperture and shutter speed can be adjusted according to the exposure mode set for the first image. White balance cannot be changed.

Comprehensive metering modes including highlight weighting option
[Multi-Segment], [Center Weighted], [Spot] and [Highlight Weighted] are available as the metering method. [Highlight Weighting] helps maintain an even exposure, suppressing highlight flare in spotlight-lit and high-contrast subjects.

Enjoy image finishing via in-camera RAW processing without using a PC
RAW format data can be processed on the camera and saved as a JPEG file. Adjust the photo exactly how you want using only the camera, adjusting recorded pixels, aspect ratio, white balance, image control and sensitivity.

P-TTL auto-sync flash for versatile lighting
An external flash can be used to take photos at full sync speed. PENTAX P-TTL autoflash (optional)* is supported for high-precision auto-synchronization using a pre-flash. This allows the use of bounce flash and daylight synchronization for a greater range of photographic expression.

*Supported flashes: AF540FGZ II, AF360FGZ II, AF540FGZ, AF360FGZ, AF201FG, AF200FG auto flash.

New conversion lenses that extend the focal length from super wide angle to medium telephoto
The new GT-2** teleconversion lens (optional) is also available exclusively for the GR IIIx. Using this lens with the GR IIIx in crop mode achieves an equivalent focal length of 75mm*** and allows for photos that express a feeling of tension similar to that felt when looking at the subject.

The GW-4* wide-angle conversion lens (optional) is compatible with GR III. By attaching this lens to the GR III, it widens the angle to a 21mm equivalent focal length. This allows photos to be taken with a dynamic expression that takes full advantage of the enhanced perspective and wide viewing angle.

*The GA-1 lens adapter (optional) is required to attach the GW-4 wide-angle conversion lens to the camera. GA-1 cannot be used on the GR IIIx.

**GA-2 Lens Adapter (optional) is required to attach the GT-2 teleconversion lens to the camera. GA-2 cannot be used on the GR III.
