The 70-180mm F/2.8 Di III VC VXD G2 (model A065) is the second generation “G2” successor to the highly acclaimed A056. The new model retains its fast F2.8 aperture and 180mm telephoto lens, while achieving the world's smallest size and lightest weight in its class. The optical design has been completely reworked to maintain the highest level of mobility. The precise combination of special glass, including XLD and LD lens elements, provides uncompromising optical performance throughout the entire zoom range. With the 70-180mm F2.8 G2, TAMRON has pushed rendering performance and miniaturization to the extreme: advances that enhance the pleasure of capturing the world around you.

Fast and precise AF, improved tracking performance and VC mechanism
The AF drive continues to use the VXD4 linear motor focusing mechanism, which combines industry-leading speed and precision for fast, precise focusing. The precise calculations used to update the 50-400mm F4.5-6.3 (A067) and 150-500mm F5-6.7 (A057) have been reworked to improve tracking of moving subjects, ensuring you never miss action, whether still or video shots. . Additionally, the 70-180mm F2.8 G2 is equipped with TAMRON's VC5 mechanism. This eliminates camera shake, which tends to occur when shooting at telephoto, when focusing closely, or in low light conditions, for sharper results.

0.3m MOD Opens Up New Possibilities
Close-range shooting, which was only possible with manual focus with the 1st generation model, is now possible with autofocus with the 70-180mm F2.8 G2. TAMRON successfully reduced the MOD to 0.3m at 70mm. At 70mm, the working distance is 12cm and the maximum magnification ratio is 1:2.6. This expands the possibilities of expression with a single goal.

Internal Focusing (IF) System
Internal Focus – Internal focus prevents extension and rotation of the barrel while focusing. The lens is easier to handle and can be used with polarizing or dimming filters.

FLR
Fluorine Coating – Fluorine coating protects the front lens from contamination. It prevents oil and water drops from adhering to the surface. Fingerprints and dirt are easier to remove.

MR
Moisture Resistant Construction – The lens housing is dust and splash resistant. All critical areas have special seals. Lenses with this feature are ideal for outdoor use in bad weather or dirty environments.

Zoom Lock (ZL) Mechanism
Zoom Lock – ZL mechanism prevents unwanted extension of the tube during transport. The lock, which is activated by a switch, protects the lens from damage and at the same time ensures that it is quickly ready for use.

XLD (Extra Low Dispersion) Glass
Extra-Low Dispersion – XLD elements have particularly low color dispersion ratings. They reduce chromatic aberrations that appear as color fringing at the contrast edges and reduce image sharpness.

VXD Autofocus
Voice-Coil Extreme-Torque Drive – VXD autofocus ensures fast and precise focusing on objects near or far away. The quiet focus motor responds with lightning speed and is particularly suitable for images of moving objects.

LD (Low Dispersion)
Low Dispersion – LD elements have particularly low color dispersion ratings. They reduce chromatic aberrations that appear as color fringing at the contrast edges and reduce image sharpness.

VC (Vibration Compensation)
Vibration Compensation – Tamron-developed image stabilization that compensates for unwanted camera shake for sharper images. Shutter speeds up to 5 EV slower are possible with the VC Image Stabilizer.

TAMRON Lens Utility
The new TAMRON Lens Utility software was developed by us to configure our own TAMRON lenses. After installing the program on a computer, compatible lenses can be connected to the computer via a connection cable to customize various lens functions or to update the lens firmware.

BBAR G2
Broad Band Anti-Reflection – Broad band anti-reflection – BBAR multi-layer coating ensures brilliant images with natural colors. It reduces the reflection of light rays hitting the lens surface. The more advanced BBAR G2 treatment has been used since 2019.
