Even sharper, with sublime bokeh
2 XA (extreme aspherical) elements deliver stunning resolution across the entire frame, while 2 ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass reduces chromatic aberration. Sony’s Nano Anti-Reflective Coating II reduces flare and ghosting for exceptional resolution and clarity. The minimum focusing distance is 0.85m (AF)/0.8m (MAN).

Smoother bokeh
The same performance as its acclaimed predecessor, enhanced with new optics that control chromatic aberration for more natural bokeh. An 11-blade circular aperture, precise spherical aberration control, and XA (extreme aspherical) lenses help reduce onion-ring bokeh, ensuring smooth transitions from sharp focus to deep bokeh at F1.4.

Outstanding autofocus with α-series cameras
Two XD (extreme dynamic range) linear motors and high-speed controls give the FE 85mm F1.4 GM II up to three times faster speed. Tracking of moving subjects is seven times better, for improved reliability even with shallow depth of field at F1.4. The α9 III’s 120fps global shutter is fully supported.

The FE 85mm F1.4 GM II is ideal for filming people. It is compatible with the α-series’ Real-time Recognition AF, for fast, precise, and quiet subject tracking that maintains sharp focus even at F1.4. Focus breathing is minimal, and body compensation is supported. Stepless aperture ring operation and linear-response manual focus provide intuitive control.

20% lighter, exceptional images
Stunning bokeh and resolution in a compact lens. XA (extreme aspherical) elements, refined optics, XD (extreme dynamic) motors and a circular aperture deliver superb wide-open performance in an 84.7 x 107.3 mm lens that weighs just 642 g: 13% less volume and 20% less weight for optimum handling.

Reliable and robust
Resistant to dust and moisture, it offers optimum reliability in harsh outdoor conditions. The front element of the lens features a fluorine coating that resists fingerprints, dust, water, grease and other contaminants.

Environmentally Friendly
Sony’s “Road to Zero” project aims to achieve a zero environmental footprint by 2050. The environmental footprint of this product has been minimized, from development to sourcing, production and packaging. We are also transitioning to non-plastic packaging materials. We use plant-based non-woven materials for product bags.

Controls for Professional Use
Two customizable focus hold buttons and an AF/MF switch provide flexible operation, while the independent aperture ring and linear response manual focus control provide the convenience needed for creative shooting. The FE 85mm F1.4 GM II accepts 77mm screw-on filters.
