Advanced design and optical simulation for prime-like zoom quality. Large lens elements, including three XA (extreme aspherical) lenses, manufactured using proprietary techniques, deliver high edge-to-edge resolution at F2 aperture throughout the zoom range. The floating focus mechanism enables close focusing down to 0.38 m throughout the zoom range.

Chromatic Aberration Control
One ED (Extra-low Dispersion) and three Super ED lens elements reduce axial and lateral chromatic aberrations, which can degrade resolution at the periphery of the image. Color smearing is effectively reduced across the entire image area, for optimum overall clarity and resolution.

G Master F2 Design for Outstanding Depth
The F2 maximum aperture and G Master optics deliver beautifully smooth bokeh for images with rich depth. Spherical aberration is carefully controlled for a perfect balance between resolution and bokeh, and a new 11-blade circular aperture unit helps achieve sublime circular bokeh. Onion-ring bokeh and chromatic aberrations are reduced for refined image quality.

F2 constant aperture in a compact, lightweight lens
This versatile standard zoom lens delivers exceptional autofocus and image quality that rivals that of fixed focal length lenses. Thanks to innovative technologies such as advanced optics and XD (Extreme Dynamic) Linear Motors, all this is packed into a constant F2 aperture zoom lens that measures just 92.9 x 139.8 mm and weighs 918 g. Stress-free shooting with all the benefits of zoom and uncompromising image quality.

Prevents flare and ghosting
Sony’s Nano Anti-Reflective Coating II reduces flare and ghosting, allowing you to capture sharp images even in strong backlight conditions. Optics designed to suppress internal reflections provide improved resistance to stray light, ensuring clarity whenever a strong light source is in the frame. Ideal for portraits, sports, movies, live events and more.

Refined and Expressive Video Production
Focus breathing compensation is smooth for refined video footage. Focus and zoom effects can be used with a depth of field of F2 to create smooth, natural transitions. When recording in 4K 120p or FHD 240p at a high frame rate, precise focusing is easy to achieve. The XD Linear Motors and new aperture unit are silent, and the α camera’s focus breathing compensation is supported.

Controls for Professional Use
Key control functions include manual focus with linear response for an intuitive experience, a torque-adjustable zoom ring, and an aperture ring with a click-type on/off switch. The camera also features two customizable focus hold buttons, an iris lock switch, and an AF/MF switch. The filter diameter is 86mm, and the lens hood has a window to facilitate the operation of the variable filter.

Accurate, Reliable, and Responsive AF Tracking
Four XD (Extreme Dynamic) Linear Motors and the latest algorithm precisely control the large F2 focusing group. When shooting at weddings or sporting events, where every frame counts, reliable focus tracking and instant response are essential. This lens is fully compatible with the α9 III’s 120fps burst function, and tracking is maintained even while zooming.

Reliable and Durable
The buttons and switches feature silicone seals, the lens mount is equipped with a rubber ring, and all critical areas are carefully designed to prevent the intrusion of dust and moisture, ensuring maximum reliability in harsh outdoor conditions. The fluorine coating on the front lens element provides effective protection against dirt and makes it easy to clean.

Environmentally Friendly
Sony’s “Road to ZERO” project aims to achieve a zero environmental footprint by 2050.
