Its advanced optical design based on three ED (extra-low dispersion) glass elements and four aspherical elements, including one ED glass, provides high resolution throughout the 16 – 25mm focal range, in a remarkably compact lens. Reflections, ghosting and chromatic aberrations are effectively reduced for clear, detailed rendering.

Impressive close-ups
Maximum magnification of 0.2x (AF)/0.23x (MF) with a minimum focusing distance of 0.18m (AF)/0.17m (MF) at the 16mm end of the range and from 0.24m (AF)/0.22m (MF) at the 25mm end of the range for exceptional close-up performance. Wide-angle coverage allows you to capture close-up shots while capturing the subject's surroundings.

Autofocus that exploits the full potential of the body
Two specially optimized linear motors and a precision control system allow you to focus on any subject with remarkable speed and precision. The lens offers excellent tracking performance, even with Sony's advanced α9 III body model at up to 120fps. It ensures smooth, precise and quiet focusing and maintains it perfectly, even when recording 4K 120p or FHD 240p videos at high refresh rates.

Advanced optical performance in a compact lens
Although it features an advanced optical design consisting of four aspherical elements, including one made of ED glass, this lens measures only 74.8mm in diameter and 91.4mm in length. The presence of engineering plastics improves its durability while reducing its weight (only 409g), making this F2.8 lens a practical choice for long sessions or low-light situations.

Complete control
In addition to its three control rings, the FE 16 – 25mm F2.8 G lens is equipped with a customizable focus lock button and an AF/MF switch. Linear response manual focus provides immediate and intuitive focus control. Internal focusing makes it easy to use 67mm rotating filters, such as variable neutral density filters often used for film.

Reliable in extreme conditions
Its dust- and moisture-resistant design makes it particularly reliable in harsh outdoor conditions, and its front lens features a fluorine coating.
