The lens also offers extremely high optical performance thanks to the complete suppression of optical aberrations within each lens group. And thanks to its exceptional close-focusing ability, macro-like results are also possible.

With its large constant aperture throughout the zoom range, the SIGMA 28-105mm F2.8 DG DN | Art is a true workhorse that can be used for almost any type of photography. Photographers can capture landscapes at the wide angle, using the F2.8 aperture for low-light scenes and cityscapes at dusk, while the mid-range focal lengths tackle documentary and dimly lit street subjects, enabling shutter speeds one stop faster than comparable lenses. At the other end, the popular portrait focal lengths of 85mm and 105mm, combined with the maximum aperture of F2.8, produce a shallow depth of field that can impressively isolate a subject with beautiful, wide bokeh.

With a minimum focusing distance of 40cm throughout the entire zoom range, the SIGMA 28-105mm F2.8 DG DN | Art lets you get close to your subject and fill your entire image with detail and texture. At the 105mm position, the maximum reproduction ratio is 1:3.1, which allows for very powerful macro-like results.

Superior optical performance throughout the entire focal length and focusing range
The SIGMA 28-105mm F2.8 DG DN | Art operates without compromise, highly effectively suppressing aberrations within each lens group and across the entire focal length and distance range. This allows the lens to deliver consistent performance even at such a long focal length range. This is due to the lens’s high-end optical design, which includes two FLD elements, one SLD element, and five aspherical lenses, the first group of which uses a large-diameter φ66.4mm element that is extremely difficult to produce and only available through SIGMA’s advanced manufacturing technology at its one and only production facility in Aizu, Japan.

Designed to minimize flare and stray light
Using advanced simulation technology, flare and stray light have been largely eliminated, ensuring rich, high-contrast results in all conditions. In addition, SIGMA’s Nano Porous and Super Multi-Layer Coatings have been applied to further suppress flare and stray light.

Standard zoom lenses need to be small and light enough to be used handheld all day long. The SIGMA 28-105mm F2.8 DG DN | Art has therefore been designed with portability in mind. It combines five aspherical lens elements effectively in place to reduce the overall length of the lens, and a magnesium alloy construction around the mount, which keeps the weight of the lens to less than 1 kg. This gives the lens exceptional portability, similar to that of shorter standard zoom lenses, while offering a wider focal length range.

By using five aspherical lens elements in its optical construction, SIGMA has succeeded in significantly reducing the overall length of the lens without compromising sharpness and image quality. This advanced configuration was only made possible by continuous technological innovations and state-of-the-art manufacturing processes at SIGMA's one and only production facility in Aizu, Japan.

More elaborate design for reduced weight
F2.8 constant focal length zooms can be heavy, but by optimizing the design and materials of each part of the SIGMA 28-105mm F2.8 DG DN | Art, SIGMA has achieved a remarkably light weight of less than one kilogram. Using a magnesium alloy instead of aluminum for the lens body near the mount has reduced the weight of these parts alone by two-thirds, while ensuring their rigidity.

In addition to the high-speed autofocus provided by its HLA (High-response Linear Actuator) linear motor, the SIGMA 28-105mm F2.8 DG DN | Art is equipped with a series of features that help achieve the best possible results in all shooting situations. These include a dust- and splash-proof structure, a water- and oil-repellent lens coating, as well as a zoom ring lock slider, a detachable aperture ring, AFL buttons and a focus ring for easier operation, even when shooting in Manual Focus.

HLA linear motor for fast and precise autofocus
The lens incorporates a HLA (High-response Linear Actuator) linear motor that provides maximum autofocus speed, ensuring responsive, precise and smooth autofocus. The quiet motor also allows for quiet video recording.

Aperture ring for improved ergonomics
For quick exposure changes, or for a more traditional shooting method, the lens is equipped with a dedicated aperture ring, which allows the user to change the aperture via the lens if desired. An aperture ring engagement switch is a useful tool for filmmakers, and an aperture ring lock slider ensures that the aperture ring is not accidentally adjusted.

Dual AFL buttons* for increased customization
Located on the side and top of the lens barrel, two customizable AFL buttons are easily accessible in either horizontal or vertical shooting positions, ensuring more ergonomic handling.

Zoom Lock Slider to Secure the Zoom Ring
The lens is equipped with a zoom ring lock slider that holds the zoom mechanism in place at its shortest focal length, preventing it from unintentionally extending under its own weight when carried. This lock can be released using the slider or by rotating the zoom ring, allowing for faster and more flexible work.

Weather-Resistant Construction for Harsh Conditions
The lens features a dust- and splash-resistant* construction that protects it from contaminants in harsh outdoor environments. The front element also features a water- and oil-repellent coating that helps keep it clean in adverse shooting conditions.

* The construction is designed to be dust- and splash-resistant, but not waterproof. Be careful not to expose the lens to large amounts of water. Water inside the lens can cause serious damage and even render the lens irreparable.
