The first in the series was the standard 30mm F1.4 DC DN | Contemporary, followed by the wide angle 16mm F1.4 DC DN | Contemporary. The third is the most compact in its class, the 56mm F1.4 DC DN | Contemporary. Faithful to the concept of the Contemporary line - compactness, lightness and high image quality - it has, thanks to the advanced technologies developed by SIGMA, the soft bokeh and admirable brightness of an F1.4 lens. It completes the series of large aperture fixed focal lengths which now consists of a wide angle lens, a standard and a tele.

About the appellations
SIGMA "DC" lenses are designed for use with a body equipped with an APS-C sized sensor.

If used with a camera equipped with a Full Frame sensor, vignetting will appear, unless the body is set to match the size of the sensor used. SIGMA "DN" lenses are designed for use with bodies having a short mechanical draft (hybrids).

Remarkably compact construction and image quality that rivals the SIGMA Art line

To achieve such compactness, the lens design incorporated the camera's capabilities to correct vignetting and distortion. Axial chromatic aberration, which is difficult to remove by post-processing of the image, is effectively corrected by the incorporation of an SLD glass element. The result: a compact and lightweight construction coupled with superb image quality.

The only three-lens F1.4 series for Sony E-mount APS-C hybrids

The lens benefits from a maximum aperture of F1.4 which makes it possible to generate superb bokeh with APS-C cameras which tend to have less bokeh effects than 24x36mm cameras. Its compactness and lightness are perfect for everyday use, and it is suitable for a wide variety of subjects, from portraiture to snapshot shooting, to night photography.

Smooth AF, ideal for video shooting

The combination of an optical formula suitable for video focus AF and a stepper motor ensures smooth and quiet autofocus. This lens is also compatible with the Fast Hybrid AF of the Sony E mount, allowing precise AF tracking. By using the face detection or Eye-AF functions of the cabinet, the target face or subject will be focused even if it is moving around during shooting.
