The Fujifilm Fujinon XF400mm F4.5 R LM OIS WR is a super-telephoto prime lens designed for photographers using Fujifilm X Series mirrorless cameras. Combining exceptional reach with a bright f/4.5 maximum aperture, fast autofocus and effective optical image stabilization, it is ideally suited to wildlife, bird, sports, motorsports, aviation and other types of long-distance photography.

Its 400mm APS-C focal length provides an angle of view comparable to approximately 600mm on a full-frame camera. Fujifilm more precisely quotes an approximately 609mm 35mm-format equivalent.

This impressive reach makes it possible to capture distant subjects while producing the strong subject isolation and compressed perspective associated with super-telephoto lenses.

Lightweight design for handheld photography

Despite its exceptional reach, the XF400mm F4.5 R LM OIS WR has been engineered with portability in mind. It weighs approximately 1,245 g and measures just 239.5mm in length, making it remarkably manageable for a lens in this class.

The lightweight design is particularly useful during extended handheld shooting sessions, whether photographing wildlife on a trail, birds in flight, athletes from the sidelines or vehicles on a racing circuit.

A fixed and rotating tripod collar is also included. The tripod foot is Arca-type compatible, allowing quick mounting onto compatible tripods and monopods.

Up to 5.5 stops of optical image stabilization

Camera shake becomes particularly noticeable when working at super-telephoto focal lengths. To address this, Fujifilm has equipped the XF400mm F4.5 with an advanced Optical Image Stabilization system providing up to 5.5 stops of compensation.

Improved vibration detection and an optimized stabilization mechanism help maintain sharp results when shooting handheld and provide greater freedom when a tripod or monopod is impractical.

Fast and quiet Linear Motor autofocus

The high-speed Linear Motor autofocus system delivers fast, accurate and near-silent focusing performance.

Combined with the advanced subject-detection algorithms available in compatible Fujifilm X Series cameras, it is particularly effective for tracking birds, wildlife, athletes, cars and other fast-moving subjects.

Its internal focusing system also contributes to fast operation while helping maintain the lens's balance during use.

Dedicated autofocus controls

The XF400mm F4.5 R LM OIS WR provides several controls designed for action and wildlife photography:

• Focus Preset: instantly returns focus to a previously stored position using the SET button.
• Focus Control Button: provides quick access to selected functions such as AF-L, PRESET or AF.
• Focus Limiter: restricts the focusing range to improve AF acquisition speed, particularly when photographing subjects located more than 5 metres away.

Advanced 21-element optical construction

The optical design consists of 21 elements in 14 groups, including four ED elements and two Super ED elements.

These specialized elements help suppress chromatic aberrations while maintaining excellent sharpness, strong contrast and accurate colour reproduction across the image.

Fujifilm's Super EBC coating further helps preserve contrast and image clarity in challenging lighting conditions.

The optical construction is designed to deliver the resolution required by high-resolution Fujifilm X Series sensors.

Beautiful bokeh and strong subject separation

The combination of the f/4.5 maximum aperture and long focal length provides excellent separation between the subject and background.

A rounded 9-blade diaphragm helps produce smooth, attractive bokeh, further enhanced by the natural perspective compression of a super-telephoto lens.

Extend the reach with Fujifilm teleconverters

The Fujinon XF400mm F4.5 R LM OIS WR is fully compatible with Fujifilm XF teleconverters, available separately.

With the XF1.4X TC WR, the focal length increases to 560mm, providing an approximately 853mm 35mm-format equivalent.

With the XF2X TC WR, the focal length reaches 800mm, corresponding to approximately 1,219mm in 35mm-format equivalent terms.

This makes the XF400mm particularly versatile for wildlife and bird photographers requiring even greater reach.

Weather-resistant construction for demanding conditions

Designed for outdoor photography, the XF400mm F4.5 features Fujifilm's WR weather-resistant construction.

The lens barrel is sealed at 20 points to provide resistance against dust and moisture and is designed for reliable operation in temperatures as low as -10°C.

A fluorine coating on the front element helps repel water, fingerprints and contaminants while making the lens easier to clean.

When paired with a weather-resistant Fujifilm X Series camera, the XF400mm F4.5 is ready for demanding outdoor environments.

2.75m minimum focusing distance

Despite its super-telephoto focal length, the XF400mm F4.5 can focus from approximately 2.75 metres.

It offers a maximum reproduction ratio of 1:6.25, corresponding to 0.16x maximum magnification, making it possible to capture detailed close views of smaller wildlife and distant subjects.
