AUTOFOCUS BASED ON DEEP LEARNING
The EOS R1 harnesses the power of Deep Learning to identify subjects, while its DIGIC Accelerator processor tracks and captures them more precisely than ever. Action Priority mode can even identify the subject based on the action, allowing you to anticipate events.

The EOS R1's AF system is able to automatically recognize and distinguish different subjects and track them even if they are briefly obscured or appear small in the frame.

Faces
It recognizes the face and head, even when the subject is wearing a helmet or mask.

Eyes
The EOS R1 instantly locks onto the subject's eyes if they are visible.

Body
The device tracks people's entire body, or just the upper part.

Sport
Action Priority mode anticipates the actions of football, volleyball and basketball games, and moves the active AF point.

Intelligent Dual Pixel Autofocus with cross-type AF points
The EOS R1 features cross-type autofocus sensitive to horizontal and vertical details. This achieves greater sensitivity and precision, especially in low light and low contrast conditions.

Stunning image quality
The new 24 million pixel sensor delivers incredible results. The ultra-fast stacked CMOS design is sensitive in low light. A low-pass filter with 16-point separation effectively reduces false color and moiré while providing highly detailed resolution.

Photos and videos. Separately and simultaneously
Designed for professional hybrid photographers covering events. When Dual Shot is enabled on the EOS R1, a single press of the shutter button while shooting Full HD video captures 5616 × 3168 pixel (17 million pixels) JPG photos at up to 10 fps using the same shutter speed, all without interrupting video capture.

GO BACK IN TIME WITH PRE-TRIGGER SHOOTING
Press the shutter button halfway to start buffering 20 frames continuously. The moment you take the photo, these “pre-captured” images will also be saved in the camera. With the EOS R1's maximum shooting speed of 40 fps, you can record action up to half a second before pressing the shutter button. At slower shooting speeds, the pre-capture time increases, for even more flexibility.
