The series' renowned sensitivity reaches new heights with an expanded ISO range for movies from 80–409600 (standard 80–102400). With advanced light capture and optimized output, the 12.1 MP2 full-frame sensor ensures low noise across the entire sensitivity range and captures actionable images in near darkness.

Gamma S-Log3 and S-Gamut3.Cine pro camcorders
The S-Log3 gamma curve and S-Gamut3.Cine color gamut, also found on professional camcorders, provide more dynamic range and easier matching for streamlined post-production workflows.

HLG (Hybrid Log-Gamma)

16-bit RAW HDMI output
For demanding post-production workflows, 16-bit RAW output6 is available via an HDMI connection to compatible recorders7. The device simultaneously captures XAVC HS 4K / XAVC S 4K / XAVC S-I 4K formats and proxy files.

Efficient editing with proxy recording
When recording high bit rate 4K movies, HD proxies (8/10 bit) can be created on the device8. Editing small proxy files reduces IT load and speeds up workflow before final delivery in 4K.

Precision and regularity
Autofocus uses intelligent tracking and on-sensor phase detection covering most of the image. Its accuracy and smoothness are maintained with quality E-mount lenses, even when shooting moving subjects at shallow depths of field in 4K and at rates of 120p

Large focus control for solo professionals
Over 7 levels of auto MaP transition speed and over 5 levels of sensitivity ranges for auto MaP subject change give you creative freedom. Temporarily activate MaP by touching the screen, even in manual MaP mode.

Real-time eye AF for videos
Real-time Eye AF ensures meticulous focus of the eyes, with 30% 9 better performance on partially obscured faces. Focus on composition with eye tracking, even at reduced depth.

Real-time monitoring with intuitive operation
Real-time tracking analyzes subject color, pattern, depth, and information associated with the face to track the subject. Touch tracking intuitively and automatically tracks the touched subject on the LCD screen.
Integrated 5-axis image stabilization

Active mode for hand turning
The new active mode10 11 provides increased stabilization for filmmaking. The BIONZ XR processor measures the movements of the device and compensates them optically. It is therefore possible to obtain a stable video even when shooting by hand, without a gimbal or while walking, and in 4K resolution.

Digital audio interface for sharper sound
A digital audio interface added to the accessory shoe (MI) allows direct 24-bit input. Available settings: 48 kHz / 16 bit 2 ch and, with the XLR-K3M adapter kit, 48 kHz / 24 bit 2 ch and 48 kHz / 24 bit 4 ch.

Unique heat dissipation
A Sony Σ (sigma) -shaped graphite heat sink is integrated into the image stabilization unit. It efficiently dissipates 5 times the heat12 for extended recording time without hampering image stabilization.

Comfortable film making
In response to comments from pro users, the record button has been placed on the top side for better use when shooting. The order of the dial modes and the speed of change have also been improved.

High ISO sensitivity
With an extremely wide ISO range of 80-102400 (expandable to 40-409600 for still images), the α7S III offers incredible creative opportunities. The new image sensor and processing algorithms produce sharper images and more natural textures compared to the α7S II, even in near darkness.
