Exceptional performance from the fusion of cutting-edge technologies
Sony’s BIONZ XR™ image processing engine processes the massive amount of data from the 50.1-megapixel Exmor RS™ full-frame image sensor in real time. With an advanced AI processing unit, high-level subject recognition reliably recognizes a wide range of subjects. These cutting-edge technologies allow you to easily capture the most challenging subjects in extraordinary resolution, with uninterrupted playback and full AF/AE tracking at up to 30fps.

High-level subject recognition is made possible by an advanced AI processing unit
The α1 II features an AI processing unit that improves the accuracy of person recognition based on human pose estimation. It also enables the recognition of a wide range of subjects, such as animals, vehicles and insects, with a high level of accuracy. With this technology, the autofocus capabilities with real-time recognition and tracking are significantly improved, as is the overall autofocus performance.

Human eye recognition is improved by approximately 30%.
Real-time recognition AF has improved human eye detection by approximately 30%, while human pose estimation technology can accurately identify subjects with their backs turned, wearing sunglasses, or with their faces obscured. In addition, distant human subjects that occupy only a small portion of the frame are now better recognized, making it possible to identify and track them more quickly when they approach. Subjects can also be better tracked even when there are multiple people obscuring each other.

Reliable real-time tracking
The α1 II features an AI-based real-time tracking system. If the subject cannot be recognized, or if subject recognition AF is not activated, Sony’s proprietary recognition algorithm analyzes color, pattern, and spatial data to ensure reliable subject focus and tracking. When [Touch Tracking] is enabled, simply touch a subject on the screen to instantly select and track it.

AF tracking response can be adjusted to accommodate changes in subject speed
Fast Hybrid AF combines phase and contrast detection to deliver exceptional speed, accuracy and tracking performance. 759 phase-detection points cover 92% of the image sensor area. AF tracking response for stills can now be adjusted between [Stable], [Standard] and [Responsive], to accommodate predictable subject movements, which is particularly useful for bird photography. AF provides high accuracy even at light levels as low as EV-4.0 in AF-S mode, with response optimized for contrast detection.

Wide variety of subjects recognized accurately
A new [Auto] mode now allows the camera to recognize a wider variety of subjects for photos and videos, automatically making the selection. Animal recognition has improved by approximately 30%, thanks to the addition of the eyes of some small animals, as well as the detection of the eyes, heads, and faces of animals such as dogs and cats. Bird recognition has improved by 50%.

Flexible focus area settings
Two new focus area sizes, XL and XS, are now available in addition to the L, M, and S sizes. The XS size is useful for preventing the focus from falling on foreground objects such as branches. It is also possible to create a custom focus area with specific dimensions and aspect ratio, which is useful in situations such as a track and field race, when athletes are side by side and you want to focus on the runner in front.

Pre-Capture and Burst Accelerator Functions
Pre-Capture retroactively records the moments before the shutter release in optimum resolution, even during continuous shooting at up to 30 fps, and offers selectable recording duration options. Burst Accelerator allows you to temporarily change the burst speed. Both features give you the best chance of capturing the decisive moment.

High-speed burst shooting at up to 50.1 MP
High-speed burst shooting at up to 30 fps with full AF/AE tracking is possible at an exceptional 50.1 MP resolution, with up to 120 AF/AE calculations per second24 based on image sensor data. Uninterrupted shooting without frame loss in the viewfinder makes it easy to frame and capture the subject, as if it were being observed with the naked eye.

Selectable Release Lag
Selectable release lag modes are available via the [Release Lag] / [Start Display] menu. Since the black screen only occurs on the first frame of a burst, [Fastest Release/On] provides the shortest possible release lag, while [Stable Release/On] limits the variation in release lag, making it easier to release the shutter at the right moment. The default setting of [Auto/Off] produces no black screen at the start of shooting.

Superb 50.1 Megapixel Resolution
Sony’s wide range of powerful G Master lenses combines the 50.1 Megapixel Exmor RS image sensor with the BIONZ XR image processing engine for vivid, lifelike high-resolution rendering. Thanks to its high pixel count, the sensor delivers an impressive 21 megapixels of resolution when shooting in APS-C mode or cropping to APS-C after shooting.

Long bursts of high-resolution shooting
The large buffer capacity and increased system speed enable bursts of full-resolution shooting. You can shoot up to 159 JPEG images or 153 compressed RAW images in a single burst of 30 fps. Up to 400 JPEG images can be shot in a single burst of 20 fps. This can be very reassuring when timing is crucial during a sporting event or when shooting moving subjects.

High Sensitivity, Low Noise, and Wide Dynamic Range
We listened to feedback from professionals to engineer high-performance noise reduction without compromising image detail, allowing users to capture sharp, high-quality indoor sports shots even at medium and high sensitivities. At low sensitivities, the wide dynamic range extends over 15 stops for smooth, realistic gradation reproduction. [1] α1, ISO 6400, 1/1600 sec, F2.8 [2] α1 II, ISO 6400, 1/1600 sec, F2.8

Accurate, Consistent Exposure and Color
Exposure and color reproduction are significantly improved over the α1. The AE algorithm detects faces and optimizes exposure for both stills and movies. Exposure stability has been improved by approximately 20%, even when the face is dark, backlit, overexposed in direct sunlight, or facing away from the camera. Using a “light and infrared sensor” on the front of the body, the advanced AI processing unit achieves accurate white balance even when the subject is in the shade.

Selecting RAW Image Size and Quality
Three types of RAW still images are available: compressed, uncompressed, and lossless compressed at high compression. Compressed RAW images can be shot continuously at up to 30 fps. Three lossless compressed RAW image sizes can be selected depending on the application: L, M, and S. Lossless compressed RAW images, as well as JPEG and HEIF in M and S sizes, have the same number of pixels whether shot in full-frame or APS-C mode, allowing easy switching between the two modes while maintaining the same image resolution. JPEG and RAW formats can be freely mixed to suit the needs of the application.

Composite RAW modes for low noise and higher resolution
The Noise Reduction (NR) shooting mode captures between 4 and 32 RAW images, which can then be merged using Sony's Imaging Edge Desktop™ application to create a full-resolution image with very low noise, even at medium to high sensitivities. Pixel-shift Multi-shot allows you to capture 4 or 16 images with pixel shifting and then stitch them together using the same PC application to achieve exceptional resolution in a single image. [1] Single RAW image, ISO 12800 [2] Composite RAW with noise reduction (32 frames), ISO 12800

Real-time Recognition AF for Movies
Real-time Recognition AF uses advanced AI-based human pose estimation technology to accurately recognize and track not only the eyes, but also the body and head positions of human subjects. The range of subjects recognized by AI for both movies and stills has been expanded compared to the α1, and now includes birds in movies, for example. Additional subjects are detected and tracked in real time using color, pattern, and spatial data processing.

5-axis Optical Image Stabilization for 8.5-stop performance at the center of the frame
The high-precision image stabilization unit, combined with advanced gyro sensors and cutting-edge algorithms, detects and corrects camera shake, achieving an unprecedented effect of up to 8.5 stops at the center and 7.0 stops at the periphery. It also makes it easier to shoot handheld with pixel-perfect precision, capturing the subject in fine detail. With compatible lenses featuring built-in stabilisation, improved camera-lens synchronisation effectively controls blur, even at telephoto focal lengths that would otherwise be problematic. [1] Yaw [2] Roll [3] Tilt

High frame rate recording up to 120p
4K recording up to 120p is possible directly in the camera. 4K footage can be played back in slow motion at up to 5x37. Slow/Time Lapse mode lets you play back footage recorded in slow motion or at high speed in the camera. Full HD footage recorded at 240fps offers even more possibilities, such as up to 10x slow motion (24p) for creating stunning sports videos, for example. The frame rate adjustment menu allows for intuitive selection.

Better S-Log Matching with Cinema Line Cameras
The S-Log3 gamma curve sharpens the gradation characteristics of shadows down to mid-gray (18% gray). The minimum sensitivity in S-Log mode is ISO 800, while the extended ISO range is ISO 200-640. Compared to the α1, detail reproduction has been improved, making it easier to match footage with Sony digital cameras, such as the VENICE and BURANO, which also support S-Log3. The ability to import user LUTs into the camera allows you to preview the final look after editing, right in the camera.

High-resolution 8K/4K recording for impressive realism
4K (3840 x 2160) movies can be cropped and edited from 8K source footage at very high resolution thanks to 8.6K oversampling. 8K 4:2:2 10-bit XAVC HS recording with optional Full HD proxy, 4K recording in full-frame XAVC HS, S or S-I formats or Super 35mm oversampled from 5.8K content with full pixel readout, without loss. XAVC S-I can record at up to 600 Mbps for exceptional image quality.

Focus breathing compensation
Focus breathing compensation reduces jitter during video recording. Sony’s Clear Image zoom technology automatically maintains a consistent angle of view when focusing, for more stable images. Focus breathing metadata can also be used during editing with the advanced compensation features in Catalyst Browse/Prepare and Catalyst Prepare Plugin software.

Smooth Focusing Functions
A series of focusing tools that facilitate intuitive and professional movie-making. AF Assist for temporary switching to manual focus, peaking, and AF transition speed and sensitivity settings make movie recording easier for the user. The Focus Map function overlays a visual map of the depth of field on the Live View screen. Real-time recognition AF, Real-time Tracking, and focus area are now available during digital zoom and Clear Image Zoom operations.

Dynamic Active Mode Stabilization
In addition to the standard mode, Active Mode combines a precise image stabilization unit and a gyro sensor, while Dynamic Active Mode incorporates electronic stabilization for an additional effect of approximately 30%, ensuring stable recording even when the user is running.

Framing Stabilizer automatically maintains subject position
The Framing Stabilizer automatically keeps the subject in the frame when the user moves next to it, or in other situations where it may be difficult to maintain a consistent framing. AI-based subject recognition and Dynamic Active Image Stabilization help maintain composition and achieve stable images, even when shooting handheld. [Center] mode automatically keeps the subject in the center of the frame, while [Manual] mode allows you to freely determine the subject's position.

Flexible LCD screen positioning
The 4-axis multi-angle monitor can be positioned for optimal viewing in either horizontal or vertical orientation. The extended screen can be tilted up to approximately 98°, down to approximately 40° from the back of the camera, and sideways up to 180°. The hinge is discreet but sturdy. The large 3.2-type touchscreen, with a resolution of 2.1 million dots and a wide color gamut, is designed for clear outdoor viewing.

Auto Framing automatically adjusts the composition based on the subject
Using AI-based subject recognition, Auto Framing reframes the image to keep the subject in the foreground when recording videos. The framing is constantly adjusted, and the recorded footage gives the impression that the subject is being followed by an experienced cameraman. You can control when Auto Framing is triggered, the size of the subject in the frame, and the tracking speed. Auto Framing is ideal for recording interviews, concerts, cooking sessions, and more.

Standard and Deep Eyecups Included
The α1 II comes with two eyecups: a standard model (FDA-EP19) and a deep model (FDA-EP21), allowing the user to choose the most suitable type according to ambient conditions or personal preference. The new FPA-EP21, which is deeper than the standard FDA-EP19, provides clearer vision by effectively blocking stray light that can enter between the eye and the eyecup in bright environments. Made of a soft material that fits the contour of the eye, they ensure high user comfort.
