Hybrid phase detection autofocus for dynamic shooting
The most important thing about autofocus is that it's reliable. It's essential that the subject is recognized and focused on quickly and efficiently. Not only does the LUMIX S5II feature contrast autofocus, it is the first LUMIX hybrid camera to offer Phase Detection AF, which dramatically improves subject tracking and light recognition performance. The camera is able to capture the subject even in particularly challenging scenes where multiple subjects are involved, ensuring high accuracy even in backlit or dimly lit environments.

779-point autofocus
The number of autofocus points has been increased to 779. The improved tracking performance allows the camera to continue capturing even small subjects that easily become blurred. Even when using 1-zone autofocus, the autofocus frame can be set to an extremely precise level, allowing the designer to focus on the subject as desired.

Artificial Intelligence [AI] based recognition technology
Deep Learning technology enables high-speed, high-accuracy recognition and tracking of humans (face, eyes, heads, and body) and animals (dogs, cats, and birds).

Ideal for shooting in motion: Active I.S. stabilization technology
LUMIX has long enabled handheld shooting with 5-axis B.I.S. and I.S.2 Dual stabilization. Now, the LUMIX S5II is equipped with Active I.S., which enables walking shots to further enhance image stabilization during video recording. Because it determines the camera shake status and optimizes the horizontal, vertical, and rotation correction ratios, this system can compensate for even severe camera shake, approximately 200% more* than conventional systems.

I.S. 2 Dual 6.5-stop Image Stabilizer
I.S.2 Dual 5-axis image stabilizer combines control of the lens' B.I.S. and O.I.S. to provide an effective 6.5 stops of correction.*

30 fps AFC Burst Shooting
Thanks to the higher readout speed of the new sensor and the superior processing power of the new processor, the LUMIX S5II enables AFC burst shooting using its electronic shutter at a speed of 30 fps with 24.2-megapixel resolution. The sensor's higher readout speed also minimizes rolling shutter distortion and captures fast-moving images normally invisible to the naked eye.

96 MP Ultra High Resolution Recording
High Resolution mode allows you to capture ultra-detailed shots with a tripod, ideal for nature or architectural photos that require large, accurate results. The camera automatically captures eight consecutive images while tilting the sensor, and the new processor's high-speed signal processing synthesizes them into a 96-megapixel (12,000 x 8,000 pixels) equivalent image. Also supported are RAW and JPEG file recording during shooting and RAW processing during playback (RAW to JPEG conversion), all with quick access via the gear wheel.

Live View Composite function
The camera takes multiple images, creating composite images only in areas of varying brightness. This feature is useful for taking images of the night sky, reproducing the light trails of stars or fireworks. Each time the shutter is activated, a composite image is displayed, allowing the user to take pictures while validating the results on the spot.

Heat management for unlimited recording time
Unlimited recording time in 4:2:2 10-bit C4K/4K 60p/50p.* With a compact body equivalent to the S5, the LUMIX S5II's new optimized heat dissipation structure enables long recording times even when shooting in demanding formats. (For example, in high-resolution video above 4K or HFR video).

*The camera may stop recording when used at temperatures below or above the recommended operating temperature (0 to 40 degrees). Recording will stop when the continuous recording time exceeds 30 minutes in [6K/29.97p] [6K/25.00p] [5.9K/29.97p] [5.9K/25.00p] when the thermal management mode is set to "Standard".

6K 10-bit recording
With 6K (5,952 x 3,968, 3:2), 6K (5,952 x 3,136, 17:9), and 5.9K (5,888 x 3,312, 16:9) 4:2:0 10-bit 30p/25p/24p modes, the LUMIX S5II offers higher resolution and bit rates than ever before, and delivers the latest in image quality, versatility, and expressive range needed for film, television, and all types of video production.

HFR (High Frame Rate)
Slow motion recording, a trend in video production, is made possible with 10-bit 120p/100p FHD video recording with audio. You can also shoot high-resolution C4K/4K 10-bit (4:3) and 3.3K 10-bit (4:3) video at 48p. It's easy to shoot slow motion photos at 24p cinematic rate. In addition, the camera allows tracking focus during HFR video recording.

Slow motion of up to 7.5x and quick motion of up to 60x
The camera supports 7.5x super slow motion video (FHD 24p/180 fps) with 10-bit recording. Because it is equipped with Slow Motion and Quick Motion modes, the LUMIX S5II allows you to easily speed up or slow down your video while shooting. The S5II's Quick Motion mode at up to 60x (C4K/4K/FHD 60p/1 fps) allows you to create emotionally charged images or effectively capture dynamic movements that are too fast to be seen by the naked eye.

4-channel audio recording
The LUMIX S5II provides enhanced audio recording performance, with 4-channel 48 kHz or 96 kHz 24-bit recording possible* when a DMW-XLR1 XLR microphone adapter (sold separately) is connected. This LUMIX S5II gives you much greater flexibility when shooting on location, for example, when multiple audio sources are present, or when recording backup audio. It now also supports 2-channel 48 kHz 24-bit recording with the built-in microphone and high-resolution 2-channel 96 kHz 24-bit recording* with an external microphone (sold separately).

24.2 MP CMOS sensor with Dual Native ISO technology.
For both stills and video, the LUMIX S5II delivers uncompromising image quality by combining high resolution with phase detection autofocus. Using the Dual Native ISO technology familiar to users of professional Panasonic Varicam models, the S5II leverages the native dual ISO settings to minimize noise and maximize image quality at both low and high ISO settings. This feature is coupled with a new processor to provide a maximum ISO 51200 / extended ISO 204800 for minimal noise at high sensitivity settings and beautiful expression of dark areas in the frame. Even when shooting professionally in low-light situations, the LUMIX S5II is ready for action.

Next-generation processor
The new engine provides twice the processing power of previous models, enabling high-speed processing with higher resolution and higher video throughput. It is equipped with technology developed jointly by LEICA and LUMIX. The combination of the new sensor and motor enables phase-detection AF and superior image quality for both stills and video.

14+ V-Log stops and V-Gamut "VariCam Look" technology
This camera provides Cinema VariCam Look compatibility, a dynamic range of 14+ stops, as well as a wide color spectrum, with V-Log and V-Gamut pre-installed. Users benefit from incredibly accurate color reproduction, subtle gradations from dark to light, and precise control of color data in post-production. In addition, footage shot with the LUMIX S5II can be seamlessly edited with footage shot with VariCam cameras. The end result is more creative and the color expression is flattering.

On the other hand, images shot with the LUMIX S5II can be edited seamlessly alongside images shot with VariCam cameras.
The LUMIX S5II's V-Log offers a dynamic range of more than 14 stops, which covers the PQ requirements of HDR, while the V-Gamut covers the entire HDR color spectrum, giving users access to HDR shooting anywhere, anytime.

RAW video data output (optional)
The DMW-SFU2 software upgrade key (sold separately) and firmware upgrade for the LUMIX S5II* enables RAW video data output of up to 29.97p 5.9K (5,888 x 3,312, 16:9) / 59.94p 4.1K (4,128 x 2,176, 17:9) and 3.5K (3,536x2,656, 4:3) 12-bit via HDMI, to be recorded on the Atomos Ninja V+ HDR recorder screen.

Easy calibration with Real Time LUT.
It is possible to record photos and videos with LUTs internally, without special software. Even if you don't have special editing skills, the camera allows you to expand your range of expression as much as you want.

Tough housing for a wide range of weather conditions
The heavy-duty housing is capable of handling the most extreme operating conditions. Molded from magnesium alloy, the case is highly impact resistant and its sealing system protects every gasket, control and knob. These features combine to make shooting more enjoyable and productive in a variety of weather conditions.

Optimized Battery Life: USB Power
USB 3.2 Gen2 Type C compatibility allows you to shoot while fast-charging your camera, which is convenient during long shooting sessions in the studio or anywhere else. The battery can be charged while powering the camera* when used in combination with the USB Power Delivery compliant DMW-BTC15 battery charger model (sold separately).

Dual SD card slots for versatile data management
SD card slots are compatible with SDXC UHS-II cards. Relay recording feature allows relay recording between memory cards when the original card is full during recording. The backup recording feature allows the same data to be recorded on both cards at the same time. Allocation recording mode allows you to specify which slot to use for video and still photo recording.*

Easy firmware updates via smartphone
Smart connectivity via 5 GHz Wi-Fi® (IEEE802.11ac) and Bluetooth® v5.0 (low energy) bands for easy remote control. Panasonic's LUMIX Sync app for Android/iOS lets you customize shooting settings, including remote shutter release. It's also easy to update the camera firmware and copy settings to multiple devices through the LUMIX Sync app.*

DMW-XLR1 XLR microphone adapter (sold separately).
This accessory allows you to connect an XLR microphone and capture superior stereo sound. When shooting in MOV format, 4-channel audio and high-resolution 96 kHz/24-bit sound recording can also be selected. This accessory also supports the use of plug-in power.

DMW-BGS5 Battery Grip (sold separately)
The DMW-BGS5 Battery Grip (sold separately) provides an excellent grip and intuitive operation with built-in buttons and joystick, in landscape or portrait mode. Two batteries can be used: one for the camera, the other for the grip, which allows for longer shots*.

The battery is not included with the DMW-BGS5.

New viewfinder with excellent color reproduction
The 3,680,000-dot 0.78x viewfinder uses a faithful, highly responsive OLED display to see even fast movement in fine detail. In addition, the high-contrast display (approximately 10,000:1) presents the subject with fine gradations and high brightness.

Swivel screen for great outdoor visibility
The LUMIX S5II is equipped with a 3-inch, 1,840,000-dot LCD monitor. With exceptional brightness and a wide color gamut, it offers great visibility for outdoor shooting. The touch screen makes it easy to compose photos and videos from underwater or overhead, making this hybrid camera even more convenient and versatile.

Intuitive operation
The knobs and buttons are intuitively arranged throughout the body. The 8-way joystick allows you to quickly and efficiently select the focus point directly with your thumb, for fast shooting. The focus area can be selected intuitively with a touch of the thumb. This allows you to take pictures quickly and easily while focusing on the subject.

Versatility

Broadcast standards versatility
To facilitate global video production, three different broadcast standard frequencies can be selected: 59.94Hz (NTSC), 50.00Hz (PAL), or 24.00Hz (CINEMA).

Frame marker
The frame marker is useful when the vertical/horizontal crop is anticipated in post-production. The aspect ratio frames offer 2.39:1 and 2.35:1 (cinema), 1:1 and 4:5 (social networks), providing a total of 10 different frames to select.

Portrait mode video shooting
The box detects the vertical orientation of the video, so the image automatically rotates when played back on your smartphone or other device. This feature can be turned on or off.

Focus control ring
If you are using this camera with a LUMIX S lens, you can control the focus ring as needed. Select between NON-LINEAR, in which case the acceleration is applied according to the rotation speed, and LINEAR, which allows focusing with a fixed value according to the rotation angle. In LINEAR mode, focusing becomes intuitive and precise with the selection of the focus stroke angle.
