Product Features.
(1) Featuring the new X-Trans™ CMOS 5 HR sensor to produce the best image quality in X-series history.
The X-H2 features the all-new 40.2MP "X-Trans™ CMOS 5 HR" back-illuminated sensor and an updated image processing algorithm to improve image resolution without compromising S/N, producing the highest image quality in X-series history. The new sensor has an improved pixel structure to effectively let in more light. This means that ISO125 sensitivity is available as standard. This is especially beneficial for daytime outdoor shooting or taking advantage of fast lenses to produce bokeh.
The use of the new sensor and the ability to control exposure time with greater precision has improved the fastest electronic shutter speed by about 2.5 stops, from the previous model*5 1/32000 sec to 1/180000 sec. This allows users to leave the aperture wide open in bright conditions such as a sunny beach or ski slope, or to capture split-second movement in the studio or other locations.
This is the first X-series camera with Pixel Shift Multi-Shot, which quadruples image resolution and produces accurate color reproduction. The camera uses the IBIS mechanism to shift the image sensor with great precision to automatically shoot 20 images with a single click of the shutter. The dedicated "Pixel Shift Combiner" software processes the captured frames to generate an image containing some 160 million pixels, which is perfect for commercial photography and digital archiving of cultural assets.
The "Smooth Skin" effect, which automatically smoothes skin tone, is also offered for the first time on X-series cameras. It reduces the workload of post-processing images. It reduces the post-processing workload required for portrait photography, etc. so that images can be finished to an advanced level of perfection much faster than ever before.
Using deep learning technology, Fujifilm has enhanced the camera's automatic white balance performance. AI technology accurately identifies the warm color distribution of bulbs to adjust white balance for greater accuracy.
The X-H2 comes with 19 film simulation modes, including "Nostalgic Neg," characterized by high saturation and soft hue. Users can use film simulation presets, designed for different types of subjects and scenes, as if they were choosing photographic films.
The camera supports the HEIF format, which saves images with a rich 10-bit color depth, although its size is 70% of that of an equivalent JPEG file. It can store image data more efficiently while maintaining advanced quality.
*5 "FUJIFILM X-T4" mirrorless digital camera.
(2) Excellent video performance to meet the needs of professional video production.
This is the first X-series camera to support 8K/30P video recording in 4:2:2 10-bit. Featuring the same heat dissipation structure as the X-H2S, this model is capable of recording 8K/30P video for approximately 160 minutes*6. It also supports 4K HQ mode, which is 8K upsampling to produce high-quality 4K video, making the most of the high-resolution sensor to deliver higher resolution images.
The X-H2 supports three Apple ProRes*7 codecs: ProRes 422 HQ, ProRes 422 and ProRes 422 LT. When recording ProRes, the X-H2 also supports proxy recording such as ProRes 422 Proxy*8. This reduces the workload of editing 8K video and streamlines the overall workflow from shooting to post-production.
The camera features the new digital zoom function*9 for use during video recording. Even when mounted with a prime lens, the camcorder can achieve 2x digital zoom without compromising image resolution. When the XF18-120mmF4 LM PZ WR, which supports motorized zoom, is mounted, the camera can offer smooth zooming as it can seamlessly switch between optical and digital zoom.
When paired with a compatible HDMI recording device, ATMOS NINJA V+*10 or Video Assist 12G*11 from Blackmagic Design, the X-H2's 12-bit RAW video output can be recorded in Apple ProRes RAW or Blackmagic RAW format at resolutions and frame rates up to 8K and 30 frames per second.
The X-H2 features F-Log2 for recording video in the extended dynamic range of over 13 stops for enriched tonality and increased freedom in post-production creativity.
*6 When cold-starting in the 25℃ operating environment, with the auto power-off temperature set to "high", H.265 4:2:0, the bit rate setting to 200Mbps, the "VG-XH" vertical battery handle attached, and three batteries used. The recording time depends on the remaining battery charge level and the type/capacity of the memory card used. Note that the camera can automatically stop video recording when the body temperature exceeds the threshold.
*7 Apple ProRes is a trademark of Apple Inc., registered in the United States and other countries.
*8 Not available in 8K/30P and 8K/25P.
*9 Available in 4K HQ, 4K DCI HQ and FHD modes.
*10 One monitor and one recorder integrated by ATOMOS.
*11 Integrated monitor and recorder by Blackmagic Design.
(3) Advanced AF performance that accurately captures details.
The X-H2 features Subject Detection AF, developed with Deep Learning technology. It uses AI to detect a variety of subjects, including animals, birds, cars, motorcycles, bicycles, airplanes and trains. The system automatically tracks a subject while maintaining focus, so users can focus on shutter opportunities and framing.
The new high-resolution sensor has an increased number of phase-detection pixels, which improves the ability to achieve AF-S*12 focus on a high-frequency subject such as animal fur or thin leaves. Users can easily perform accurate autofocus in situations where AF-S is typically used, such as landscape and portrait photography. The new camera also features an AF prediction algorithm, originally developed for the X-H2S, for stable focus even in AF-C*13 mode.
The magnification of the focus check function, in which the area in focus can be magnified in AF/MF mode, has been doubled from the previous model*5 to 12 times. A focus indicator has been newly added to assist manual focusing during video recording to enable more precise focus adjustment.
The video autofocus algorithm has been optimized to significantly improve autofocus accuracy during video recording. This gives users peace of mind when recording 8K video, which requires highly accurate focusing.
*12 AF-S automatically focuses on a subject when the shutter button is half-pressed, and keeps it locked after focusing.
*13 AF-C continuously holds the focus on a subject in the focus frame when the shutter button is pressed halfway.
(4) Hardware that promises ease of use to support users' content creation.
The X-H2 features a five-axis IBIS mechanism that provides image stabilization up to 7.0 stops. Users can shoot handheld, even in low-light conditions, such as night photography.
The X-H2 features a 5.76 million-dot high-definition viewfinder with 0.8x magnification. It eliminates parallax and distortion that typically occurs when the eye position is shifted when using the viewfinder for exceptional visibility. It has a frame rate of approximately 120 frames per second to accurately identify rapid subject movement.
The X-H2 shares the same design features as the X-H2S, such as an LCD on the top panel that allows users to check settings at any time, a very rugged body that stands up to heavy professional use, the feel of the shutter button when half depressed, the adjustment of the feel of the AF ON button when depressed.
The camera has a standalone video recording button and a 1.62 million-dot variable angle rear LCD, which can be positioned at a range of angles to allow for shooting as intended.
The camera has two memory card slots supporting CFexpress™ Type B*14 and SD cards. Use the CFexpress™ Type B memory card, which has high-speed data writing capability, to take full advantage of the X-H2's video performance*15.
The X-H2 can be combined with the "FT-XH" file transmitter to enable wired and wireless LAN video recording.*16 Up to four cameras*17 can be connected simultaneously to enable the following operations from a computer browser:
Checking and using the settings of each camera
Simultaneous video recording on multiple cameras
